Kaelen stood beside her, his face etched with a sorrow that ran deeper than any river. His usual stoicism was strained, a brittle shell over a profound grief. Lyra, usually a whirlwind of nervous energy, was unnervingly still, her small hands clenched at her sides. The community, gathered in a hushed semicircle behind them, mirrored the somber mood, their eyes fixed on the heart of the grove.

“It is here,” Kaelen’s voice was a low rumble, barely audible above the rustling of dying leaves. “The source of the sickness. The Shadow Weaver’s chosen seat.”
