The Shadow Weaver's influence grows, manifesting as illusions and fear. Elara must confront her own deepest anxieties, projected by the entity, to protect herself and Lyra.
The air, once crisp with the scent of pine and damp earth, had begun to thicken, carrying a subtle, unsettling perfume of decay. It clung to Elara’s clothes, to her skin, a constant, cloying reminder that the forest’s fever was no mere passing ailment. The vibrant greens of the canopy seemed muted, the sunlight filtering through a sickly, jaundiced hue. Even the birdsong, usually a joyous symphony, had dwindled to hesitant, mournful chirps.
Lyra’s small hand, usually so warm and firm, felt clammy in Elara’s. The young woman’s eyes, which had once sparkled with youthful curiosity, were now clouded with a fear that mirrored the unease creeping into Elara’s own heart. They moved through the familiar paths, now rendered alien by the encroaching gloom, their footsteps unnaturally loud on the forest floor.
“It feels… different,” Lyra whispered, her voice barely audible above the rustling of dead leaves underfoot. “The forest is weeping, Elara. I can feel it.”
