The weight of the Sultan’s Locket felt different now, not just a returned treasure, but a symbol of a journey that had irrevocably altered the course of Ahmad’s life. The artisan’s gratitude, a silent, tearful bow before he vanished back into the labyrinthine alleys, still echoed in Ahmad’s mind. The curse was broken, not by force or decree, but by understanding and a willingness to see beyond the gilded cage of his royal upbringing. He had walked among his people, smelled the spices in the souk, heard their laughter and their worries, and in doing so, had found a treasure far more precious than any jewel: himself.

But what of the other treasure, the one that had blossomed in the dusty corners of the city and under the watchful gaze of the desert stars? Layla. The thought of her sent a tremor through him, a mix of exhilaration and a gnawing apprehension. How could he return to the palace, to the life he had so eagerly escaped, without her? How could he face her now, knowing the truth that had been hidden behind his borrowed tunic and his assumed name?

He found her by the fountain in the central square, her back to him as she haggled animatedly with a fruit vendor. The late afternoon sun caught the golden threads woven into her scarf, making her seem to glow. A familiar pang, sharp and sweet, twisted in his chest. This was the Layla he knew: vibrant, sharp-witted, and utterly captivating. She was negotiating for pomegranates, her voice a melodic counterpoint to the cacophony of the market, and he felt a sudden urge to simply watch her, to absorb this ordinary moment before the extraordinary truth shattered it.
