The air in Elara’s room was thick with the scent of dried herbs and the faint, sweet perfume of the nocturnal bloom. It was a scent that had become as familiar to her as the ache of her own tired eyes. Tonight, however, there was a new urgency in the air, a nervous flutter in Elara’s chest that had nothing to do with the persistent buzz of her sleeplessness. The Keeper of Whispers had spoken of a final descent, a journey to the heart of the dreamscape where the truth lay hidden, guarded by the very shadows that now danced at the edges of her vision.

She held the small, velvety petal of the bloom between her fingers, its deep indigo hue almost black in the dim lamplight. Each time she consumed it, the world would tilt, then dissolve, pulling her down into the velvet depths of sleep. But this time, the Keeper had warned, the descent would be different. It would be a plunge, not a drift, and the destination was not a place of rest, but a battlefield.

“Are you ready, little star?” The Keeper’s voice, a gentle rustle of leaves, seemed to emanate from the shadows in the corner of her room. Elara didn’t see them, not anymore, but she felt their presence, a comforting, ancient warmth.
