Chapter 6
The Price of Peace
The scent of moon-dusted petals still clung to Elara’s fingertips, a phantom perfume that lingered even after she’d scrubbed her hands clean. The night bloom, nestled in a small, velvet-lined box on her bedside table, pulsed with a faint, inner light, a silent promise of the oblivion she craved. The day passed in a blur of forced normalcy. She helped her mother bake bread, the rhythmic thud of dough against the wooden board a comforting, familiar sound. She played with her younger brother, Leo, his giggles a bright counterpoint to the quiet hum of anxiety in her chest. But every so often, her gaze would drift, drawn to the window, to the darkening sky, to the silent promise of the night bloom.
