Chapter 12
Marco's Confession
During a vibrant festival, Marco confesses his love for Elara. His words are sincere, forcing her to confront the depth of her own feelings.
The air in Piazza Navona thrummed with a life Elara had only dreamed of. Music spilled from open doorways, a lively accordion melody dancing with the rhythm of a thousand footsteps. It was the Feast of Saint John, a celebration that seemed to infuse the very cobblestones with an ancient, joyous energy. Elara, her heart aflutter, clutched the smooth stone in her pocket, its familiar coolness a grounding presence amidst the intoxicating swirl.
She had come to Rome seeking clarity, a divine whisper to guide her path. Her journey, funded by a benefactor whose face she had never seen, felt like a sacred pilgrimage. Yet, lately, the whispers had been drowned out by the resonant tones of a different kind of calling, one that emanated from the warm hazel eyes of Marco, the artist.
He found her near Bernini’s Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, his smile as bright as the scattered light. “Elara,” he said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to resonate with the very soul of the city. “I have been looking for you.”
