The red dress. It hung at the very back, a beacon of defiance in the otherwise muted landscape of my closet. Not muted in color, no, my closet was a riot. But muted in *intent*. Each hanger held a garment, yes, but some felt like old friends, others like ill-fitting disguises. The red dress, though, was different. It was a firecracker, a siren, a dare. I’d bought it on a whim, a moment of reckless abandon after a particularly brutal week at work. It was a slinky, floor-length number, the kind that whispered of confidence and unapologetic glamour. And it had been hanging there, untouched, for months.

Today, though, as Punchy swayed gently in the corner, his cheerful blue form a silent, unwavering presence, I felt a flicker of something new. It wasn’t the usual gnawing anxiety, or the heavy blanket of ‘not good enough’. It was… curiosity. A tentative reaching out towards that audacious splash of crimson.

“You see that, Punchy?” I asked, my voice a little shaky. He just bobbed, as if to say, *I see everything, Elara.* “That’s the red dress. The one that screams ‘look at me!’ And I’ve been too scared to even look at it properly.”
