My paws, usually so quick and eager to explore, felt heavy as I tumbled into Mama’s soft, warm fur. The scent of her, a comforting blend of sunshine and milk and home, washed over me, and a rumble started deep in my chest, a purr that was more a sob of relief than a sound of happiness. “I’m so sorry, Mama!” I choked out, burying my face in her neck. “I should have listened.
