He would watch her, a faint smile playing on his lips, as if he saw not just Elara, but the echo of Beatrice in her dedicated care. Today, he brought a small, tarnished silver trowel, its handle intricately carved with entwined ivy.

“Beatrice,” he said, his voice a low rumble, like stones shifting in a riverbed, “always favored this one. Said it felt like an extension of her own hand.”
