The scent of aged paper and drying ink was a familiar comfort, a perfume Dr. Evelyn Reed had long grown accustomed to. A classic, certainly, but her gaze was drawn to a more obscure, yet equally provocative, collection tucked away in the same alcove: a series of anonymous pamphlets, their pages brittle with age, depicting scenes of scandalous indulgence that would have made even the most jaded libertine blush.
