The air grew thick with a dread I’d only felt in my darkest nightmares. The scent of dust and dried herbs that usually clung to the village marketplace now felt suffocating, laced with the metallic tang of fear. Lyra’s hand, usually warm and steady, trembled in mine. “They’re here, Elara. I saw them. cloaked figures, their faces hidden, but their eyes… they were like chips of obsidian.”

My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. The symbol on my loom, the one that had felt like a whisper of magic, now felt like a brand, a beacon screaming my name to the darkness. Kael’s voice, a low rumble beside me, cut through the rising panic. “We must move. The labyrinth awaits.”

The labyrinth. It sounded like a riddle, a myth, but Kael had spoken of it with a certainty that chilled me. A place hidden, protected, where my ancestors had woven their secrets for generations. It was our only hope.
