Chapter 15
Axioms of Acceptance
She starts to forgive, not just others, but herself. The harsh self-judgment that has defined her begins to dissolve, replaced by a quiet, internal absolution.
Kristijana traced the faint lines etched into the surface of her mahogany writing desk, a familiar map of her own making. Each scratch, each subtle indentation, spoke of countless hours spent wrestling with theorems, of pens pressed with fierce concentration, of moments of frustration and, occasionally, of triumphant clarity. Today, however, the geometry of the desk felt different. It was less a testament to intellectual rigor and more a quiet companion to a new, tentative understanding blooming within her. The harsh angles that had once defined her internal landscape were softening, their sharp edges gradually worn smooth by a current she was only just beginning to recognize as forgiveness.

The relentless self-criticism, the internal tribunal that had judged her every misstep, every perceived failing, was finally beginning to quiet. She saw now, with a clarity that surprised her, how much energy she had expended in this internal battle, how much of her life had been dedicated to dissecting her own imperfections with a surgeon’s cold precision.

And then there was the other memory, the one that still felt like a raw wound, the one she had so carefully encased in layers of logic and denial. The weight of that memory had been crushing, a constant pressure that had fueled her need for order, for control, for an unassailable fortress of intellect. But now, as she sat in the quiet hum of her home, the fortress walls seemed to be crumbling, not in a violent collapse, but in a gentle surrender.
