The air in the ruins was thick with the dust of ages, a fine, silken powder that clung to Aria’s tangerine hair and settled on the stark white of her good eye. Her other eye, a swirl of amber and white, blinked slowly, taking in the grandeur of what lay before her. She’d expected crumbling stone, the skeletal remains of a forgotten era. Instead, she found a city, or what was left of one, that hummed with a silent, potent energy.
