The first hint of dawn painted the sky in soft, bruised watercolors, bleeding from lavender into a pale, hopeful rose. Elara’s eyelids fluttered, heavy as if weighted with years of slumber. It wasn't the jarring jolt of an alarm that pulled her back, but a slow, gentle unfurling, like a flower petal tentatively opening to the morning sun. The air in her room was still, carrying only the faintest scent of dust motes dancing in the nascent light.
