The air in Elara’s small apartment, usually so still and predictable, now seemed to hum with a nascent energy. It was the kind of quiet that held its breath, waiting. She’d been experiencing a peculiar fatigue lately, a weariness that no amount of sleep could truly shake. It was as if her dreams, once confined to the nocturnal hours, were beginning to spill over, staining the edges of her waking world with an unsettling hue. A sound like rustling silk, a sigh that wasn't her own.

“Who’s there?” she called out, her voice a little shaky. Silence answered, but the feeling of being watched intensified. She stood, her heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against her ribs. Her eyes scanned the room, searching for the source of the disturbance. Nothing. Just the quiet hum of the refrigerator, the ticking of the clock on the wall. But the feeling persisted, a prickle of unease that settled deep in her bones.
