A tremor, no bigger than a butterfly’s wingbeat, shivered through Elara’s fingertips as she gathered the last of the wilting flax. It was a familiar sensation lately, a hum beneath her skin that spoke of unrest, of a world sighing its last breath. The blight, a creeping thief of color, had reached the very edge of their village, its tendrils of grey siphoning the life from the once-vibrant fields.
