As dawn breaks, the blight begins to recede. Color returns to the fields, and the air feels lighter, cleaner, carrying the scent of healing earth.
The first blush of dawn painted the eastern sky in hues of rose and gold, a gentle awakening after the long, tense night. Elara, her fingers still tingling with the residual magic of the Crimson Thread, watched from the edge of the village as the first rays of sunlight kissed the horizon. A profound quiet had fallen, not the oppressive silence of fear, but the hushed reverence of a miracle unfolding. The air, once thick with the sickly sweet stench of decay, now carried a clean, crisp scent, like rain on parched earth.
Slowly, tentatively, the world began to breathe again. Where yesterday had been a canvas of grey and brown, a subtle emerald began to seep back into the wilting leaves. A faint blush of life returned to the drooping petals of the valley flowers. It was as if the very land, weary and wounded, was sighing with relief, shedding its shroud of sickness.
Elder Maeve stood beside Elara, her gnarled hand resting lightly on the girl’s shoulder. Her eyes, usually sharp and knowing, held a deep, unshed wonder. “It begins,” she murmured, her voice a soft whisper against the dawning symphony of birdsong that was tentatively returning.
