Elara’s fingers, usually so sure and steady, trembled as they danced across the loom. The crimson thread, a pulsing vein of pure light, was almost complete, a breathtaking tapestry of hope blooming against the encroaching darkness. But the darkness was fighting back.
Outside, the wind howled like a wounded beast, tearing at the thatched roofs and rattling the wooden shutters. The blight, no longer a creeping shadow but a ravenous maw, was surging forward. It wasn't just withering the crops now; it was a living, breathing entity, a suffocating blanket of decay that choked the life from everything it touched. The familiar, comforting scent of damp earth and blooming wildflowers had been replaced by the cloying stench of rot.
