The air in Eleanor’s study was thick with the scent of aged paper and dried ink, a comforting perfume that always settled Elias’s racing thoughts. Outside, the city hummed with its usual restless energy, a stark contrast to the quiet sanctuary they occupied. He leaned closer to the ancient oak desk, his fingers tracing the faded lines of a map spread between them. It wasn’t a map of any country Elias recognized, but rather a convoluted web of interconnected circles and arrows, a diagram that felt more like a complex financial model than a geographical representation.

“So, the ledger is more than just a record,” Elias murmured, his brow furrowed in concentration. “It’s a blueprint.”

Eleanor nodded, her eyes, sharp and knowing, fixed on the diagram. “A blueprint for influence, Elias. For centuries, they’ve been nudging, shaping, and sometimes, outright forcing the markets to bend to their will. This,” she tapped a particularly dense cluster of symbols, “represents a significant manipulation, a ‘great correction’ as they termed it, designed to consolidate wealth and power.”
