Chapter 5
Fragments of a Forgotten Life
The air in Elara’s room felt thick, heavy with the scent of the night bloom that now rested in a small, porcelain bowl on her bedside table. It was a deep, velvety purple, its petals unfurling as if in a slow, silent sigh. Elara traced the edge of a petal with a hesitant finger. It felt cool and strangely alive beneath her touch. The memory of the previous night, of the profound, all-encompassing sleep, still hummed in her veins like a forgotten melody. She had slept, truly slept, for the first time in what felt like an eternity. But with that sleep had come the unsettling visions, the fleeting images that danced just beyond the edge of her understanding.

He had spoken of the price, of the dreams that would become more vivid, more real, than her waking life. But the promise of true rest was a siren song she couldn't resist.
With a deep breath, she plucked a single petal from the bloom. It was surprisingly pliable, almost like soft velvet. She brought it to her lips, the faint, sweet fragrance filling her senses. It tasted of moonlight and something wild, something ancient. As she swallowed, a wave of warmth spread through her, a gentle tide pulling her towards the comforting embrace of unconsciousness.
