The air in the workshop hummed with a nervous energy, a low thrum that vibrated in Alex’s teeth. It wasn't the usual comforting buzz of the soldering iron or the gentle whir of the 3D printer. This was a discordant vibration, a tremor that spoke of something deeply wrong. Chapter 5, they’d titled it in their mental outline: Debugging the Data Dragon. It felt aptly dramatic, given the circumstances.
The Data Dragon, a magnificent, shimmering creature woven from pure information, was supposed to be the guardian of the central data stream. Its scales, usually a kaleidoscope of shifting colors representing the flow of knowledge, were now dull and flickering, like a dying ember. A jagged, black void pulsed near its heart, a gaping wound in its otherwise perfect form. This was the Glitch, the insidious corruption that Alex had first noticed in the quiet corners of the workshop, and which had now manifested in its most terrifying form.
“It’s… it’s getting worse,” whispered Pixel, a small, square sprite whose usual cheerful glow was dimmed with concern. Pixel, Alex’s first friend in this digital realm, was a walking, talking icon, his body a perfect, animated cube that could rearrange itself into helpful shapes. Right now, he was a worried exclamation mark.
