The afternoon sun, a soft, buttery hue, spilled through the lace curtains of their shared living room, painting dappled patterns on the worn Persian rug. Elesky traced a lazy finger over the intricate floral design, a contented sigh escaping her lips. Seven years. Seven years of this comfortable, sun-drenched existence with Markov. Their love, a quiet hum beneath the surface of their days, had grown and deepened, a sturdy oak that had weathered every season. Yet, lately, a new melody had begun to weave itself into the familiar symphony of her heart, a yearning for something more tangible, a promise etched in stone rather than whispered on the breeze.

She watched Markov across the room, his brow furrowed in concentration as he meticulously polished the already gleaming surface of his grandfather’s pocket watch. Could ‘enough’ ever truly be enough when her heart felt capable of such boundless devotion?

Markov looked up, his blue eyes, the colour of a summer sky, meeting hers. A slow smile spread across his face, a beacon of pure affection. He always knew. He always sensed the subtle shifts in her moods, the unspoken thoughts that danced behind her eyes. “Everything alright, my love?” he asked, his voice a low rumble, like distant thunder.
