Leo Vance squinted, the midday sun a harsh glare against the peeling façade of the old greenhouse. It was a peculiar place, tucked away at the edge of town, smelling faintly of damp earth and something strangely sweet, like forgotten flowers. Silas Vane, a man whose words dripped with honeyed promises and veiled threats, had pointed him here. “The Alchemist,” Silas had called her, his eyes glinting with an amusement Leo hadn’t quite understood. “She might have what you’re looking for. A rare bloom, perhaps, to… mend things.”

Mend things. The phrase echoed in Leo’s mind. His younger sister, Lily, lay pale and listless in their small cottage, a strange sickness clinging to her like a shroud. The village healer had shaken his head, his remedies as useless as dry leaves against a storm. Silas, with his vast knowledge of ancient remedies and peculiar connections, had been Leo’s last desperate hope. And Silas had pointed him to this dilapidated greenhouse, to a woman he’d only ever heard whispered about in hushed tones.

He pushed open the creaking gate, the rusted hinges groaning a mournful protest. Inside, the air was thick and humid, a jungle of wilting leaves and drooping vines. Sunlight filtered through the grimy panes, casting long, distorted shadows that danced like specters. It was a place forgotten by time, a forgotten corner of the world.
