Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating Professor Finch’s study like a spotlight on a stage. Elias, his heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against his ribs, watched as the professor carefully placed a fragile, leather-bound book onto his polished oak desk. It wasn't the ledger Elias knew, the one that crackled with secrets of the market. This one was older, its pages brittle with age, its cover embossed with a symbol Elias vaguely recognized from the cryptic diagrams within his own discovered tome.

“This,” Professor Finch began, his voice raspy, like dry leaves skittering across pavement, “is where my story truly begins. And perhaps, Elias, where yours takes a more… personal turn.” He ran a gnarled finger over the worn leather. “This ledger belonged to my great-grandfather. He was a scholar, much like myself, but his focus was not on the stock market, but on the hidden currents that shape history. He believed, with an almost fanatical conviction, that certain families, certain… custodians, had been subtly guiding the world’s fortunes for centuries.”

Elias leaned forward, his analytical mind already sifting through the implications. “Custodians? You mean… the organization?”
