Chapter 6
Shadows Over Techtopia
A mysterious threat emerges, targeting Techtopia's vital energy grid. The city's lights flicker, and a sense of unease spreads. The delicate balance between the city and the Cyber Dragon is in grave danger.
The city of Techtopia, usually a beacon of pulsating light and humming energy, began to falter. It wasn't a sudden plunge into darkness, but a subtle, unsettling dimming, like a vast, tired eye blinking slowly. Streetlights, once vibrant arteries of azure and emerald, flickered erratically, casting long, dancing shadows that twisted familiar shapes into grotesque caricatures. The constant, comforting thrum that underscored every moment of life in the city seemed to falter, replaced by an anxious, uneven pulse. A hush, deeper than mere quiet, descended, the usual cacophony of whirring drones and gliding vehicles muted by a growing unease.
Ruby, nestled deep within the cavern, felt the shift not through her senses, but through a tremor that resonated within her very bones. It was a vibration that echoed the dragon’s own, a subtle discord that spoke of distress. The air, usually cool and carrying the faint, metallic tang of ancient circuitry, now felt heavy, charged with an unseen tension. She looked towards the enormous, crystalline structure that pulsed with the city’s heart, its light now a sickly, flickering amber. The dragon, coiled around it, stirred. Its vast, segmented body, usually a tapestry of iridescent scales and glowing conduits, seemed to dim, its inner luminescence fading like embers in a dying fire. A low, guttural sound, a mournful echo of its former power, rumbled through the chamber.
Outside the cavern, in the bustling heart of Techtopia, Lucy and Luna felt it too. They stood on their small balcony, overlooking the city that had been their ancestors' pride and their family's legacy. The usual kaleidoscope of light that painted their apartment walls was now a patchy, inconsistent glow. Lucy, her brow furrowed, clutched Luna’s hand. "It’s never been like this," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper against the growing silence. Luna, ever the pragmatist, scanned the horizon, her eyes searching for a rational explanation. But even her practical mind struggled to grasp the phenomenon. "The grid… it's fluctuating," she stated, though the words felt inadequate. "The energy distribution is… erratic."
