Olivia's Challenge

The air at Camp Hemlock felt thick, not with the usual humidity of July, but with an unspoken tension that seemed to emanate from Olivia. It was during the afternoon session of Capture the Flag, a game that usually dissolved into a joyous chaos of shouting and strategic scrambling, that the shift became palpable. I’d found myself on Autumn’s team, a quiet victory in itself, and we were strategizing near the thicket of pines that bordered the eastern field. Damarcus, ever the steady presence, was keeping an eye on our flank.

Suddenly, a voice, sharp and laced with an unmistakable sweetness, cut through the rustling leaves. "Well, well, if it isn't the anime queen and her… entourage."

Olivia stood there, flanked by two of her usual acolytes, her tan skin glowing in the dappled sunlight, her black curly hair pulled into a high ponytail that bounced with every condescending tilt of her head. Her eyes, dark and calculating, were fixed on Autumn. Damarcus shifted, a protective instinct flicking across his face, but Autumn held up a hand, a small, almost imperceptible gesture, before turning to face Olivia.
