The air in the Evergreen Toy Co. factory, usually thick with the scent of sawdust and a faint whiff of something undeniably Christmassy, now thrummed with a different kind of energy. It was a frantic, almost giddy buzz, like a beehive that had just discovered a secret stash of extra-sweet nectar. Claire, perched on a stool near the main assembly line, found herself tapping her foot to the rhythm of whirring machinery and the surprisingly upbeat humming of the toy makers. It was a far cry from the sterile silence of Sterling Acquisitions, where the loudest noise was usually the aggressive clicking of her own pen.

Ben, a whirlwind of flour-dusted enthusiasm, zipped past, narrowly avoiding a stack of partially assembled rocking horses. "Can you believe it, Claire? They're actually *excited*! Old Mr. Henderson, whose hands, gnarled like ancient oak branches, usually moved with deliberate slowness, was now expertly attaching wheels to a fleet of miniature fire trucks with a speed that defied his years. Even the perpetually grumpy Frank, who usually communicated in grunts and eye-rolls, was seen sketching furiously on a notepad, a faint, almost imperceptible smile tugging at his lips.
