The weight of secrets pressed down on Julian, a physical ache in his chest that mirrored the hollow space Cameron had left behind. They’d spent the last week piecing together fragments, sifting through Cameron’s life like archaeologists excavating a tomb, their initial shock slowly morphing into a gnawing unease. The cryptic note, “Don’t trust everyone,” had been the spark, but the embers were now fanned by the chilling discoveries they’d made in the days since.

The hidden compartment beneath Cameron’s loose floorboard had yielded more than just the tarnished metal box. Tucked beneath a false bottom, nestled amongst a collection of dried leaves and faded photographs, was a small, leather-bound journal. It wasn't the kind of diary filled with teenage angst and crushes. This was different. Filled with a dense, almost frantic script, it detailed Cameron’s late-night excursions, his clandestine meetings, and a growing sense of dread.

“He was meeting someone,” Julian murmured, tracing a line in the journal with his fingertip. The entry was dated two weeks before Cameron’s death. “Someone he was afraid of. He called them ‘The Watchers.’”
