The air in the old library was thick with the scent of decaying paper and forgotten stories, a fragrance Elara had always found both comforting and melancholic. Sunlight, fractured by the dusty panes of the arched windows, cast long, shifting shafts across the worn oak tables, illuminating motes dancing in the stillness. She traced the embossed title of a leather-bound volume, the gold lettering faded to a whisper, much like the fragmented memories that had begun to haunt her waking hours.
