Professor Armitage, his brow furrowed in concentration, peered over her shoulder, his spectacles glinting in the low lamplight. They had spent hours sifting through archives, each document a potential breadcrumb, each forgotten name a ghost from a past that felt increasingly like her own.
“Are you certain this is the correct section, Professor?” Elara’s voice was a low murmur, barely disturbing the stillness. The air thrummed with an undercurrent of anticipation, a familiar tension that had become her constant companion. The fragmented images, the prickling sensation of being watched – they had led her here, to this quiet sanctuary of forgotten stories.
Professor Armitage adjusted his glasses, his gaze sweeping across the page. “The records of the ‘Ordo Lumina’ are notoriously difficult to access, Elara. They were a rather… reclusive order. And their downfall, as you know, was equally abrupt and shrouded in mystery.” He gestured to a particular passage, his finger hovering over a series of names scrawled in a spidery script. “This list pertains to the periphery, the individuals who were associated with the order but not direct members. It’s a long shot, I admit, but sometimes the most crucial figures are those who operate just beyond the spotlight.”
