Silas Croft, the specter who had haunted her steps, the unseen hand that had nudged and obstructed, stood before her not as a phantom, but as a man. A man etched with a chilling blend of weariness and grim satisfaction.
Professor Armitage, his usually kind eyes now sharp with a desperate resolve, stood beside her, his hand a steady, albeit trembling, presence on her arm. He gestured around the cavernous space, his eyes sweeping over the rusted telescope, the cracked celestial charts peeling from the walls, the overturned chairs that spoke of a hasty departure. "This was the heart of it. The nexus."
