Trial by Fire
The Weavers launch a direct assault on Elara's sanctuary. She is forced to confront Valerius, her dormant abilities awakening fully under pressure.
The air in the secluded mountain hermitage, once a sanctuary of quiet contemplation, now thrummed with a violent energy. Elara, jolted from a fitful sleep by the jarring clang of metal against stone, scrambled from her cot. The rough-hewn walls, usually a comforting embrace, seemed to press in on her as the sounds of combat escalated. Shouts, the sharp crack of energy discharges, and the sickening thud of bodies colliding echoed through the stone corridors.
Silas, his face a mask of grim determination, met her in the main chamber, his hand resting on the hilt of a blade that seemed to hum with an inner light. "They've found us, Elara," he stated, his voice low but resonant, cutting through the din. "The Weavers. Valerius himself leads them."
Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs. Valerius. The name was a dark whisper from her fragmented memories, a phantom that had stalked her dreams. "But… how?" she stammered, her gaze darting to the heavy wooden door, which shuddered under a relentless assault.
