Lyra, who had initially been a wary, self-interested observer, had seen something in Elara’s struggle, in the sheer, unyielding fight for something more than mere survival. She’d seen the Weavers’ cold, calculating cruelty, the casual disregard for life that chilled even her hardened sensibilities. Now, as the last of the Weavers retreated into the labyrinthine alleys, leaving behind only the lingering metallic tang of spilled blood and the oppressive weight of their defeat, Lyra turned to Elara. Her gaze, usually sharp and assessing, held a flicker of something softer, something akin to respect.

“They’ll be back,” Lyra stated, her voice low, devoid of its usual flippancy. She gestured with her chin towards the shattered remnants of a crate, its contents spilled across the grimy concrete floor. “And they won’t be alone. Valerius doesn't take kindly to being outmaneuvered, especially not by a woman who shouldn't even know how to hold a proper knife.”
