The air in the grotto still hummed with the residual magic of the artifact, a gentle pulse against Elara’s skin. She tested its weight in her hands, the smooth, cool surface a comforting presence. The feeling of being watched, once a prickle of unease, had transformed into a sense of quiet companionship, a silent guardian watching over her. But as the initial elation of discovery began to settle, a familiar, almost forgotten flutter of apprehension stirred within her. The mischievous creature. Where had it gone?

A rustle from the moss-covered entrance to the grotto made her jump. She spun around, her heart thudding a rapid rhythm against her ribs. Emerging from the shadows, its multi-colored fur shimmering even in the dim light, was the creature. It blinked its large, intelligent eyes, a playful glint dancing within them. It hadn’t vanished, not truly. It had merely retreated, observing, waiting.

“Well, well,” the creature chirped, its voice a melodious blend of a giggle and a sigh. It hopped closer, its tail twitching like an inquisitive antenna. “The little human has found her sparkle. Took you long enough. I was beginning to think I’d have to redecorate the entire forest with ‘Lost and Found’ posters.”
