“It’s just noise, Elara,” my mother’s voice, a distant memory now, would sigh. “Pretty, but ultimately… noise.” She meant the music, of course. She’d never understood the way the intricate layers of a beat could feel like a blueprint, the way a rapper’s flow could untangle the knots in my own thoughts. But she was wrong. It wasn't just noise. It was a language, a cypher, and it was unlocking something inside me that had been locked away for too long.
