Chapter 4
Shadows in the Village
While Masroor prepares for his journey, Kael, a man with a shadowed past and unsettling influence, subtly manipulates the villagers' fear. He shows an unusual interest in the illness, hinting at a darker agenda.
The air in Oakhaven had turned heavy, thick with a dread that clung to the eaves of cottages and settled in the lines etched around Lyra’s worried eyes.
