Malakor's Trap

Malakor sets a cunning trap, hoping to lure Obed into a false sense of security. The friends must discern the deception and find a way around his deceitful ploy.

The air in the ancient grove hung thick and still, a velvet hush that seemed to absorb the very sound of their footsteps. Sunlight, usually so playful and dappled, was muted here, filtering through the dense canopy in long, hesitant shafts. Obed, Elara, and Barnaby moved with a cautious grace, their senses on high alert. They had followed the faint, almost imperceptible trail of disturbed leaves and broken twigs, a trail that had led them away from the familiar paths and into this hushed, watchful place.

“Are you sure this is the right way, Barnaby?” Obed whispered, his voice barely disturbing the quiet. He glanced around, his heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against his ribs. The trees here were ancient, their bark gnarled and twisted like the faces of old storytellers, their branches reaching out like skeletal fingers.

Barnaby, his brow furrowed in concentration, knelt to examine a scuff mark on a moss-covered stone. “The signs are faint, Obed, but they’re here. Someone… or something… has passed this way recently.” He stood, his large frame a comforting presence beside Obed. “And it hasn’t been long.”
