The air inside the mountain cave was cool and carried the faint scent of damp earth and ancient stone. It was a stark contrast to the crisp, thin air they’d breathed on the windswept peak. Obed, Elara, and Barnaby had followed the faint, almost invisible markings on the cave wall, their torchlight dancing across the rough-hewn surfaces. Barnaby, ever the cautious one, held the torch high, his brow furrowed with concentration as he navigated the uneven floor. Elara, her eyes sharp and observant, ran her fingers over the peculiar symbols etched into the rock.

“These aren’t like any markings I’ve seen before,” she murmured, her voice echoing softly. “Not from any known script.”

Obed, however, felt a strange familiarity tugging at him. He’d spent countless hours poring over scrolls in the temple library, but these symbols were different, older, imbued with a power that seemed to hum beneath his fingertips. He traced a swirling pattern, a faint warmth spreading through his hand. “They feel… alive,” he whispered, more to himself than to his companions.
