The Shifting Maze
To proceed, Tom and his new friends must navigate a maze that constantly shifts and rearranges itself. Tom's empathy helps him sense the maze's patterns, guiding them through the bewildering paths.
The air grew thick, not with the scent of sawdust and popcorn, but with something ancient and earthy, like moss after a rainstorm. Professor Hoot, his spectacles perched precariously on his beak, tapped a gnarled finger against an invisible barrier. "Ah, yes. The Labyrinth of Whispers. A most peculiar place, even for those accustomed to the peculiar."
I shifted my weight, my paws feeling strangely heavy on the soft, yielding ground. Beside me, Sparkle buzzed with an almost frantic energy, her wings a blur of iridescent light. "Peculiar? Professor, it looks like a giant, grumpy hedge decided to have a bad hair day!"
Grumble, ever the stoic, rumbled from behind me. "Hedges do not have hair, sprite. And this is no hedge. This is a test."
