The air in the Whispering Peaks crackled, not with the playful static of Sparkle’s illusions, but with a deep, resonant hum that vibrated within my very bones. It was a sound I’d never heard before, yet it felt as familiar as my own heartbeat. Professor Hoot, perched on a jagged outcrop, adjusted his spectacles, his usual flutter of eccentricity replaced by a focused intensity. “Remarkable, Tom! Truly remarkable!” he hooted, his voice a blend of awe and urgency. “You’re not just communicating with the magic, my boy, you’re *amplifying* it!”

Amplifying it. The words echoed in my mind, a strange resonance with the hum that pulsed through me. I’d always felt a kinship with the creatures of this realm, a gentle understanding that went beyond mere observation. When Sparkle had been cornered by the Shadow’s tendrils, I hadn’t just felt her fear; I’d felt a surge of… something. A warmth, a power, that had seemed to flow out of me, strengthening the flickering light of her illusions and pushing back the oppressive darkness.

Sparkle, her iridescent wings beating a frantic rhythm, hovered beside me, her usual mischievous grin replaced by a look of wide-eyed wonder. “Tom! It’s like… like you’re a conductor, and the magic is your orchestra! It’s so much brighter now!”
