The fire crackled, casting dancing shadows across Grak’s weathered face. He sat cross-legged, his immense frame somehow conveying a sense of profound stillness. Aris, perched on a smooth, moss-covered stone opposite him, felt a familiar warmth emanating from the ancient orc, a stark contrast to the chill that had settled in his own heart. Chapter 10 had ended with the unsettling discovery of Valerius’s sinister machinations, and now, Grak’s words promised to illuminate the path forward, or perhaps, to reveal just how dim that path truly was.

“The prophecy speaks of the ‘Great Silence’,” Grak began, his voice a low rumble, like stones shifting deep within the earth. “For generations, we have lived it. Humans heard only grunts and roars, and we… we chose to let them. It was a shield, a way to preserve ourselves when their fear was a sharp, unyielding thing. But the shield has begun to crack.”

Aris leaned forward, his heart thrumming with a mixture of dread and anticipation. “The crack… is it Valerius?”
