Chapter 7
A Shifting Alliance
Elias encounters Agnes Vance, a sharp corporate agent. Her motives are unclear, but she possesses knowledge that could help or hinder his quest to expose the truth.
Elias traced the worn leather cover of the ledger, a familiar comfort now, yet each day it felt like a new, untamed beast. Chapter 6 had ended with him staring at the latest cryptic entry, a jumble of symbols that seemed to mock his attempts at deciphering their meaning. Her dark hair was pulled back in a severe, elegant knot, and her eyes, sharp and intelligent, scanned him with an unnerving directness. There was an aura about her, a subtle tension that suggested she was accustomed to being in control.
