Elias traced the worn leather cover of the ledger, a familiar comfort now, yet each day it felt like a new, untamed beast. Chapter 6 had ended with him staring at the latest cryptic entry, a jumble of symbols that seemed to mock his attempts at deciphering their meaning. He’d spent the night poring over ancient financial texts, searching for a Rosetta Stone to unlock this particular riddle, but the symbols remained stubbornly opaque.
