Detective Evans opens a missing person case. His initial skepticism about Reka's disappearance is slowly challenged by Rome's increasingly erratic behavior and the subtle hints of foul play.

Detective Evans sat behind his desk, the fluorescent lights of the precinct buzzing overhead like trapped flies. He tapped a pen against a worn file, the name ‘Reka’ staring up at him from the page. Rome. The husband. He’d been here before, a whirlwind of bluster and indignation, demanding his wife be found. Rome, who painted himself as the wronged party, blindsided by his wife’s sudden departure. Evans had seen his type before. Men who couldn’t fathom being left, men who saw their wives as possessions, not people.

“So, she just… left?” Evans asked, his voice a low rumble that didn’t quite mask his weariness. He’d been on the force for twenty years, and the stories of love gone sour, of lives unraveling, were as common as the stale coffee brewing in the breakroom.

Rome, perched on the edge of the visitor’s chair, shifted uncomfortably. His expensive suit seemed to chafe him, his hands restless. “That’s what I’m telling you, Detective. One day she’s here, the next… gone. No note, no call, nothing. It’s like she evaporated.” He ran a hand over his closely cropped hair, his eyes darting around the cramped office as if expecting Reka to materialize from the shadows.
