The morning sun, buttery and warm, spilled across their breakfast table, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air like tiny, golden fairies. Maya traced the rim of her coffee mug, a smile playing on her lips as she watched him across from her. He was meticulously buttering a piece of toast, his brow furrowed in concentration, the very picture of domestic bliss. It had been six months since the hay proposal, six months of shared mornings and evenings, of laughter that echoed through their small cottage, and quiet moments of understanding that needed no words. Yet, sometimes, even now, a simple memory could send a ripple of pure delight through her.

“You know,” she began, her voice soft, “I was just thinking about that first text.”

He paused, toast halfway to his mouth, and looked up, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “The hay one?”
