Whispers of the Wild

Ferdinand’s paws, no longer the familiar pads of a fox but the softer, more delicate soles of a cat, faltered on the unfamiliar terrain. He had run, a desperate, blind flight from the sharp teeth and the chilling finality of that one, terrible moment. Now, the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves filled his nostrils, a different kind of wild than the sun-dappled woods he’d known. The trees here were gnarled giants, their branches twisted into shapes that defied the gentle curves of his former home. Strange, phosphorescent moss clung to their bark, casting an eerie, ethereal glow that did little to dispel the encroaching gloom.
