The city lights blurred into streaks of neon as Marcine and I moved through the shadowed alleyways, our footsteps unnervingly silent on the damp pavement. The air, usually alive with the distant hum of traffic and the faint scent of rain, now carried a different kind of tension, sharp and metallic like the tang of old blood. Luke. His name was a phantom whisper on the wind, a constant, gnawing unease that had settled between us like a cold stone.

He hadn’t shown his face, not directly, not since that night in the abandoned warehouse. But his presence was a suffocating blanket, woven from carefully placed traps and the chilling certainty that he was always watching. Every shadow seemed to lengthen, every creak of a loose shutter sounded like his bootfall. We were no longer the hunters; we were the prey, and the game was becoming dangerously personal.

“He’s getting bolder,” Marcine murmured, her voice a low thrum against my ear as we ducked behind a overflowing dumpster. The stench of decay was a stark contrast to the refined perfume that always clung to her. “The tripwire near the old church – that was a direct message.”
