The rain outside my window had become a constant companion, a soft drumming that used to soothe me but now felt like a prelude to something else, something I couldn't quite name. Today, however, the usual grey drizzle had given way to a peculiar, almost luminous mist that clung to the glass, distorting the familiar shapes of the oak tree in my yard. And in each of these vivid excursions, a subtle shift had been occurring within me. The panic, the desperate urge to wake, to shake off the intrusion, had begun to wane. It was being replaced by a cautious curiosity, then by a burgeoning sense of wonder.
