The air in Eleanor Vance’s parlor hung thick with the scent of dried lavender and the unspoken weight of years. Sunlight, filtered through the lace curtains, painted dusty golden stripes across the worn Oriental rug. Miles sat opposite her, the plush armchair feeling both too soft and too confining, a stark contrast to the hard edges of his own thoughts.
