The city hummed, a constant, reassuring thrum that vibrated through Elara’s bones. It was the sound of life, the pulse of the Current, the invisible web that cradled every flicker of existence. But lately, that hum had a discordant note, a tremor that resonated with the unease growing within her. The anomaly in her personal supply, once a fleeting glitch, now felt like a premonition. Every dimmed light, every stutter in the flow of energy, was a whisper of something broken.

She found herself drawn to the fringes of the city, the places where the Current’s embrace felt a little looser, the lights not quite as blindingly bright. Here, the hum was softer, the air cooler, carrying the scent of something wild and untamed that had long been scrubbed from the city’s polished core. It was in one of these liminal spaces, a forgotten alcove beneath a defunct transport tunnel, that she found him.

Kael. He moved with a quiet intensity, his eyes holding a depth that spoke of battles fought and lost, and perhaps, still to be won. He was surrounded by others, their faces etched with a similar blend of weariness and fierce resolve. They were the Unplugged, the rebels, the whispers that had grown into a roar.
