The hum of the Current was a lullaby no longer, but a symphony of a thousand different melodies. Elara stood on her balcony, the pre-dawn chill a welcome sensation against her skin. Below, the city wasn’t a monolithic block of uniform luminescence anymore. Patches of deeper shadow bloomed between the illuminated towers, like inkblots on a canvas.
